EQUINE ASSISTED GROWTH (EAG)

EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING (EAL)

EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY (EAP)

Equine Assisted Growth (EAG) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) are all emerging fields in which horses are used as a tool for emotional growth and learning.  Sessions are held in a horse arena.  The clients are not mounted on horseback, but all work is done with the client standing on the ground and the horses loose inside the arena.

EAGALA incorporates horses experientially for emotional growth and learning opportunities.  It is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional working with the client and the horse to address treatment goals.  Participants learn about themselves and others by participating in ground activities with horses, then processing or discussing feelings, behaviors and patterns.  Because of the intensity and effectiveness of the programs, each is considered a short term or brief approach.

Why Horses?

  • Horses are very much like humans in that they are social animals.
  • They have distinct personalities, attitudes and moods.
  • An approach that works with one horse does not necessarily work with another.
  • Horses like to have fun, but can be stubborn or defiant.
  • They provide vast opportunities for metaphorical learning.
  • Horses require people to be engaged physically and mentally for work to be successful.
  • Most importantly, horses have the ability to mirror exactly what the non-verbal human body language is telling them.

Hope Haven has trained professionals who work with the Hope  Haven therapy horses to provide clients with opportunities in the following areas:

  •   Behavioral Issues
  •   Attention Deficit Disorder
  •   Substance Abuse
  •   Eating Disorders
  •   Abuse Issues
  •   Depression
  •   Anxiety
  •   Relationship problems
  •   Communicating Needs
  •   Family Strengthening
  •   Anger Management
  •   Conflict Resolution
  •   Respect
  •   Accountability
  •   Trust
  •   Acceptance
  •   Corporate or Staff Team-Building Tools

Equine Assisted Growth, Equine Assisted Learning and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy all have a quick and incredible impact on individuals, youth, families and groups because:

  • All challenge clients in a non-threatening manner.
  • All rapidly break down the client's defense barriers.
  • All provide immediate Cause and Effect Situations
  • All captivate and hold the attention of the client.
  • All promote changes from dysfunctional patterns to successful ones.
