EQUINE ASSISTED GROWTH (EAG) EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING (EAL) EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY (EAP)
Equine Assisted Growth (EAG) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) are all emerging fields in which horses are used as a tool for emotional growth and learning. Sessions are held in a horse arena. The clients are not mounted on horseback, but all work is done with the client standing on the ground and the horses loose inside the arena. EAGALA incorporates horses experientially for emotional growth and learning opportunities. It is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional working with the client and the horse to address treatment goals. Participants learn about themselves and others by participating in ground activities with horses, then processing or discussing feelings, behaviors and patterns. Because of the intensity and effectiveness of the programs, each is considered a short term or brief approach. Why Horses?
