| FUNDRAISING AT HOPE HAVEN Hope Haven Horse Farm, Inc. in Coatesville, IN is a recognized non-profit organization dedicated to promoting growth, learning, hope and opportunities for at risk and special needs residents in Putnam County, Hendricks County and surrounding communities. Through the use of innovative and responsive equine therapy techniques, both on and off the horse, Hope Haven seeks to improve the confidence, self esteem and physical mobility of the people we serve. We believe that the safe, responsible use of equine therapy programs will improve the lives of both special needs individuals and at risk youth in our community, affording them experiences and opportunities they might not otherwise have had and the chance to give back to the community through volunteer work. With this in mind, Hope Haven uses equine therapy to meet the needs of our clients. Volunteer instructors are certified through either the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) or the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). This ensures that our instructors are completely familiar not only with the ways in which equine therapy benefits clients, but also the safest and most comfortable means of applying these techniques. Hope Haven uses NARHA techniques for our special needs clientele. Horses are enormously effective in the treatment of these types of clients because the movement of the rider on horseback is similar to that of a human being walking upright, an experience some of our physically disabled clients have never been able to enjoy before, and which helps develop muscle strength and coordination in a way that is both easy and fun. This, in turn, means increased mobility and autonomy for our riders outside of class, as well as increased confidence in their own abilities and self esteem. Hope Haven uses EAGALA techniques for our at risk clientele. Equine behavior often mimics human behavior in a number of situations, and trained instructors have been able to use this similarity to effectively counsel individuals, couples and families through exercises and examples. Science, in recent years, has confirmed what most animal lovers have known for a very long time: there is something healing and positive in the interaction between humans and animals. Many rides and handlers have difficulties communicating and/or connecting with people, but are able to bond closely with animals. For many clients, the love of interacting with the horses becomes the reason to be involved with the programs. As a 501 (C) 3 Hope Haven relies very heavily on outside financial contributions. Our goal is to never turn anyone away who might benefit from our programs away just because they cannot pay. Hope Haven does receive some funding from our local United Way, but does not receive any government funding. We do rely on individual donors, program fees and special event revenue for financial support. We are the only organization of our kind serving this area and anyone is welcome at Hope Haven. Hope Haven's strategic plan lays out the steps we are undertaking to continue to grow within our community and regionally, to provide innovative, diverse programs and continue to do so in our signature efficient way. Giving to Hope Haven, whether through our annual campaign, in the form of volunteer support, by becoming a major donor or giving to The Jill LeAnn Wells Endowment for Hope Haven* constitutes an investment in these ideals.
