Hope Haven has received a $1,000 grant from The Duke Energy Foundation to help us prepare our therapeutic riders for the Special Olympics Equestrian Event in September. The event will be held at Danville Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 11.  Hope Haven will have 24 therapeutic riding students ready to compete this year.  Our riders have made tremendous progress this year.  If you have the opportunity, please come out and watch our riders and celebrate their progress this year.  We hope to see you there.

Therapeutic riding lessons have been off to an amazing start this year!  Jamie Resseguie has taken over the program for the summer while Christy is in school.  This year we have 11 clients from Putnam County and 13 clients from Hendricks County preparing for the Special Olympics event. We are about half way through the summer sessions and things are going great!  We have 2 clients that walk, trot, and canter on their own.  33% of the clients are walking and trotting completely on their own.  38% of the clients are walking their horses with no assistance and many are starting to trot with little or no assistance from leaders and side walkers.  This is a huge improvement over last year where the majority of the clients needed both leaders and side walkers to assist them.  As you can tell, the clients have been working extremely hard to achieve this and are looking forward to showcasing their new skills during Special Olympics in September!

Autism Advocates of Indiana, Inc. has awarded Hope Haven a $1500 lesson scholarship grant for our therapeutic riders with autism to prepare for their Special Olympics Equestrian Event on September 11.  This year, the AAI has planned their 10th Annual Answers for Autism Walk for Sat. Sept 18 beginning at 9 am.  If you would be interested in joining the walk, you may register at the AAI website: www.AAIWALK.ORG.

Mike Eaton of Danville, IN has donated 100 large bales of Hay to Hope Haven.  His employees at Eaton Excavating loaded, delivered and unloaded the hay at Hope Haven.  We are very grateful for this donation.

Hope Haven received a grant of $1850. From the Indiana Quarter Horse Association earlier this year.  This grant was made possible by the generosity of rides who participated in the Indiana Quarter Horse Ride last fall.

Hope Haven is happy to inform you about the Jill Wells Endowment for Hope Haven, founded by Penny Wells and Pamela Rossok.  If you would like to donate via the endowment, please contact Eric Wolfe or Elaine Peck at the Putnam County Community Foundation (765-653-4978) or go to their website at: www.pcfoundation.org.  Until November 30, 2010 the Community Foundation is providing a 1 to 2 match of all gifts to the endowment, up to $2,500.  All gifts are tax deductible and the Community Foundation will send a tax receipt that you may use at tax time.

Donations may be made to Hope Haven at any time.  Check out our website: www.hopehavenhorsefarm.com for ways to donate.
